I was thinking about the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary calendar of rescued animals photographed by Deb Durant that's on my refrigerator. It's on the refrigerator, but when you open the refrigerator door you'll see nothing that came from the animals in the calendar. Tags: Activism Current Affairs Ethics.

My inbox this month has informed me that November is Vegan Awareness Month! Here's my attempt to bring it all together in an Animal Person post. I am a vegan who has adopted a diabetic greyhound who eats vegan food ( Natural Balance ), and who is adopting a boy from Russia. At least she eats vegan food, I tell myself.

The idea of family is currently being used by the dairy industry in a series of commercials with the tag line: "99% of dairy farms are family owned." Families are just as capable of horrendous policies toward animals as anyone else. Their goal is to make a profit from the breeding and slaughter of animals. There are children.
