Dogs were bred to be companion animals; pigs and cows are raised as food. To suggest that eating one and not the other represents a conflict of ethics is preposterous. However, I agree with Mr. Foer that factory farming has to go. Rather than eating dogs, we all ought to eat exclusively small-farmed, free-range meat.

There is also little dispute concerning the following premise: (4) The animals that become that meat are reared in ways that subject them to intense pain and suffering for much of their lives. It is not in dispute that, in modern factory farms, animals are raised in massively overcrowded, unnatural warehouses.
