The Weekly Reader had shocked everyone in class with news of Bald Eagles dying – and humans were to blame! Eleven million gallons of oil suffocated 1,300 miles of shoreline in my beloved Alaska. Images of wildlife coated in toxic goo haunted me; particularly the birds. Destroy the habitats – destroy the wildlife.

Aleutian Cackling Geese on Buldir Island, Alaska, where they made their final stand. Can you imagine having to go to Alaska just to see our national bird?

Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit recently decided that the Sonoran Desert population of Bald Eagle is not a listable taxon under the Endangered Species Act. Fish and Wildlife Service (“FWS”), the agency that implements ESA as to birds. What does that mean? Nor is “DPS” defined by ESA.
