Rarer than Tigers: the Indian Wild Dog

Further down the road, we reach a derelict building with a large veranda hidden among the trees – an abandoned hunting lodge (if I were in a situation to invest, I would choose to upgrade this into a luxury wildlife lodge). Well, one reason might be – this animal is not only endangered, but even rarer than the Tiger!

Emerging birding destinations: Serbia

You may have read about Kikinda in the Wall Street Journal or the BBC Wildlife Magazine. These are overgrown in steppe grasses and local sheep herders are subsidised by the authorities to bring their animals here to keep the grass short, prevent succession by bushes and manage the habitat. Alas, I am not among them.

Winter Wanderland

Alas, those sightings will be for another time as the weather had thrown a spanner in the works: half a meter of snow had closed off our intended destination. After a pleasant morning with ducks, crisp snow and sunshine, we followed the wildlife trail on our way out. All bird and animal pictures are Brad’s.

Out and About with the Cumberland Bird Observers Club

Alas, this wasn’t to be our time for that rarity, but the trail certainly delivered honeyeaters. I talked to an American visitor from Hawaii who had brought his wildlife-mad son along. First off was a typical honeyeater for the park, an Eastern Spinebill.
