Manker’s thesis is that ornithology is an excellent gateway to students becoming science majors in college and, more broadly and longer-term, conservation-minded citizens. No publisher wants to publish a book that can’t be sold. However, for there to be an audience to sell it to there needs to be high school ornithology classes.

For my new book, due out in 2012 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, I’ve been researching sandhill crane hunting. She illustrates her books and magazine articles with her own sketches and watercolor paintings. Those opposed have anti-hunting agendas and can not be allowed to dictate what game species are hunted.

This statement is mainly motivated by a recent conversation with someone who has a science degree (I think it's biology), but who actually works for a clinical testing company. It's a book about societal collapses resulting from poor decisions about the environment, resource-use, etc. Science does not solve everything.
