The annual number of rhino poached in South Africa last year rose to 1,215, Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa told a media briefing in Pretoria two weeks ago. On average, over 100 rhinos were illegally killed each month. Molewa added that so far this year 49 rhino had been killed countrywide.

November 12, 2008) – Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby white rhinoceros on Wednesday, Nov. The female rhino was born in the night quarters adjacent to their 26-acre white rhino habitat on Busch Gardens’ Serengeti Plain. The birth brings the total white and black rhino population at the adventure park to 12.

We –participants of the ABA South Africa Safari—were on a small plane when one Lori Conrad looked out the window and screamed, “There are elephants down there!” and everyone ran to Lori’s side of the plane. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomes its seventh baby white rhino since 2004. The adorable baby, a female, will join other rhinos in the 26-acre white rhino habitat on Busch Gardens’ Serengeti Plain. Busch Gardens has celebrated a total of seventh white rhino births since October 2004.

Great wildlife preserves, reserves and parks exist for a number of reasons. Madikwe , in South Africa, wasn’t a site of importance before it came into existence. Having been to some other parks in Africa, it’s an improvement. Black-backed Jackals are awesome and smaller than you’d think.
