We were the type of family that bought the best dog food, dog insurance , BPA free chew toys, etc. Even tougher though, was moving a bit further away and into an apartment complex that did not allow for me to own any pet other than a goldfish. I remember seeing her shaking as I slowly knelt at her kennel. I was heartbroken.

When they opened the door I expected to see a concerned owner relieved to see his pet. He’s currently residing with a loving foster family but the good news is he has just been adopted to a family in Canada!! Unfortunately, the plate was loose now and he needed a second surgery to fix that.

And I received confirmation of something I've known since 2004, when we adopted retired racing greyhound, Violet Rays: That there's sort of a critical period for dog-behavior acquisition, and if it's missed, the dog isn't likely to mature into the type of loving being whose behavior we've come to associate with "pet" dogs.

Animals in the tri-state area are euthanized daily, rescue groups are unable to save as many lives as they wish, and animals spend years in boarding kennels while awaiting adopters to fall in love with them. There is an estimated 3-4million pets euthanized each year in US animal shelters. That’s 10,000 per day on average.
