It would take years to restore such large scale landscape changes, perhaps not soon enough to reverse the kite’s population downward trend. Kites now nest there and are fairly common.

Sadly, this population too went into a steep decline until only 57 animals were left in Germany in 1997, raising fears about their imminent extinction in the country. Through intensive conservation management however, this downwards trend was halted and the population stabilized at more or less 100 bustards until 2011.

February 27, 2012 Reports of large marine animal strandings in the Gulf of Mexico continue to pile up in the first two months of 2012. In the past two years alone up until end of December 2011 approximately 600 marine mammal strandings have been reported and this trend seems to be continuing.
