Another sign of progress here, is that Chester Lamb has now dropped to #7 in the list of Michoacán’s all-time birders. Well, Chester Lamb was a researcher for University of California, Berkeley… who died in 1965. Now, however, we may have 100 contributors for the state by as early as April or May each year.

Like many others, this village was totally abandoned and only recently repopulated, with a current population of only 18 people. The cuisine was magnificent, especially lamb. The bear walks are relatively easy and, while possible in sneakers, some light ankle-support hiking shoes might be preferable. Also, trekking poles proved useful.
