My first ‘protest’ memory involved putting pencil to notebook paper and writing the President about the harmful effects of DDT. 27, August 2018, Vol. 360 miles of National Park land at the border! The Weekly Reader had shocked everyone in class with news of Bald Eagles dying – and humans were to blame!

The Splendor of Birds and National Geographic: a Book Review

The celebration was occasioned by 2018 being the centennial of the passage of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act , a seminal environmental law. (Fun Fun fact: only three species in the lower 48 states are not protected by that statute – the House Sparrow, Rock Pigeon, and Common Starling.).

You may have read about them in the Wall Street Journal , the BBC Wildlife Magazine , or perhaps watched them on BBC, who filmed them here twice, for the Planet Earth II in 2015 and for the One Planet in 2018. Many social network protesters found it obscene. Actually, the numbers are even higher.
