Both McWillam and Hammer express mixed emotions about Lendrum–they abhor his actions but admire his talents–they stress his climbing abilities but he’s obviously also skilled at finding the nests–and his bonhomie fabrications, even the most ridiculous lie is given repeatedly and confidently.
