White’s Thrush or Scaly?

On a recent visit to Tokyo, Japan, I came across a beautiful bird that I took to be a White’s Thrush , Zoothera dauma. White’s Thrush contains two subspecies, aurea and toratugumi; and Scaly Thrush includes the subspecies dauma, major, and horsfieldi, each of which also is recogized as a monotypic group. A Grey-tailed Tattler flagged In Taiwan returns annually

Walking from the Port towards Town Beach you often find the first group of shorebirds to be the ever noisy and flighty Common Greenshank followed by the Grey-tailed Tattlers and Terek Sandpipers. It was only a week later that we discovered our first Terek Sandpiper that had been flagged at Torinumi in Japan.
