Best Bird of the Year 2014

2014 has been a good year for us at 10,000 Birds. Larry starts us off right with an owl that makes birders drool: I was able to see and photograph many great birds in 2014 but my Best Bird of the Year would have to be the Great Gray Owl , the largest Strix in North America. That’s Redgannet’s BBOTY at the top of the post.

The slaughter tourism trade in Serbia

10,000 Birds

As we speak, in Serbia these birds are still hunted in August and September. Local bird protection NGOs have been demanding a hunting ban on both Quails and Turtle Doves ever since. Allow me to take you back in time, to November 2014. As a result, on June 19 the Ministry announced a two years hunting ban on Turtle Dove.

Come@Me: Hunting Is Not Conservation

The definition of the word HUNT is “to chase or search for game or other wild animals for the purpose of catching or killing.” ” Obviously the dictionary does not equate hunting with conservation. It is obvious that hunting is NOT conservation. Why is this happening? People don’t respect wildlife.
