Three endangered Malayan tiger cubs were born at Busch Gardens Tampa Sunday, March 31. Malayan tiger cub births in managed care are rare – just one successful birth in 2012 as part of the SSP. These are the first Malayan tigers born at Busch Gardens Tampa and the first offspring for both the mother Bzui and father Mata.

I fly in to Orlando early Tuesday morning and I will immediately head west to Tampa in search of these two countable exotics. Blue-winged Teal like these at Meritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in 2012 certainly count as good birds. Black Rails failed me in 2012. Add Nanday Parakeet and Budgerigar to my ABA Life List.

It took until 2004 before the Florida Ornithological Society’s Records Committee added the bird to the state checklist as a countable species and it took the American Birding Association’s Checklist Committee until 2012 to agree and make it a countable bird in the ABA area. They are relatively easy to find around St. Petersburg.
