Going to Ohio for the Midwest Birding Symposium. Wait, Ohio?

By the time you read this post I will still be in New York but I’ll be looking forward to leaving for the 2011 Midwest Birding Symposium in Lakeside, Ohio. But Ohio worries me. PRO – The American Federation of Labor was founded in Columbus, Ohio in December of 1886. Ohio should stick with amateur sports!

I love these well-established, deservedly popular birding events and have participated in each one multiple times. But there are something like 350 OTHER bird-related events going on each year across the continent. There have not been mountains around Lake Erie (either the Ohio part or the Canada part) since the glaciers came through.
