Though Scarlet Macaws are threatened in Honduras there is hope that they will get protection and recover at least some of their numbers and former range. Ospreys are so common here that when I noticed one on a branch eating a fish, I pointed it out to a chap nearby who remarked, “Hmmm, nice fish.&# By building nests out over the swamp, the birds benefit from the protection offered by the alligators in deterring predators such as raccoons and snakes.
