Animal rights is concerned with individual animals, and their suffering and welfare. I’m not unsympathetic to concerns about animal welfare, really. If tourists are too dim to tell Sierra Leone from Botswana or Tanzania, do we really want to rely on them to save Africa’s species? And, honestly, that’s fine.

Take the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania. Lion shooting over three years brought $75 million into the economy of Tanzania alone. Shooting lions is big business.
