Sea Shepherd Goes on Mission to Protect Bluefin Tuna

In Qatar yesterday nations voted down a proposed ban on exporting Atlantic bluefin tuna. Greenpeace says the New Zealand Government voted against the ban – spelling disaster for the future of the species. Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully wasn’t available today to confirm how New Zealand voted.

The Little Big Year 2018: Best Birds of the Year!

The Southern Brown Kiwi on Stewart Island, New Zealand, that ran down the path in front of me, was never captured. They might very well have their Kiwi, but in my opinion, no bird could possible represent the country of New Zealand as well as the beautifully voiced Tui.

Week 23: The advenure continues, Stateside

You might remember, or maybe not, that the last spot I birded, prior to boarding a plane for New Zealand, was Nisqually NWR, in a snow storm, and -5 ° F. New Zealand species – 104. Qatar species – 9. This morning at 6:00 AM, it was a beautiful, sunny 59° and by the time I left at 11:30, it was 81°.
