A visit to Dog Lake

With shore side access limited to the northern end of the lake, that protection allows for a large population of water based birds. Mule Deer have always been pretty common in this area, but I got quite a surprise when I cleared a small hill in the road, and nearly ran over a male Pronghorn Antelope , right in the middle of the road.

Camas and Cranes

Today, the camas fields rest protected in the vast bosom of the Clearwater National Forest. They will meet you when you come — so long as you come during the right few weeks in June. That was then. Depending on a visitor’s luck, one can see moose and wolves, hear Boreal Owls or Townsend’s Warblers.
