When one Chinese researcher was very bored, he had a bright idea: Why not publish a paper on the complete mitochondrial genome of the Rhinoceros Hornbill ? It holds the large food item at the tip of its bill and throws its head back quickly, swallowing it whole. The Wreathed Hornbill is also listed as Vulnerable.

Very little information was available at the time, so we hired a car and off we went, following the few tips we had managed to gather but mostly our noses. Although this park was logged in the past, as a national park it is one of the few forests in Ghana that is really protected. . And wow, what a trip we had!
