I foresee a day, perhaps not far in the future, in which it is illegal to raise cows, pigs, and other animals for food. Some will reduce their consumption of meat for the sake of the animals. The ground for this will not be animal welfare, as you might expect, but environmentalism. Others will do so for health reasons.

Illegal capture for the wild animal trade is an obvious peril for such a charismatic species, but this big blue bird is also hunted both for its meat and feathers. The Hyacinth Macaw doesn’t start a family until it is seven years old.
