Joseph Chiera is a Masters student in Animal Behavior and Conservation at Hunter College in NYC and a “somewhat newbie” to birding. First was an awesome stay in Iceland. And, as appears to be the case in most cities in Finland, wildlife and nature is only steps away! Of course, birding was on the itinerary!

This bird spent the 2011-2012 winter at Colusa National Wildlife Refuge in northern California, migrated someplace exotic and distant in February, and returned to the same pond at the beginning of this month. I’m looking forward to putting it on my year list for the third year in a row.
