I particularly question the use of chimpanzees in medical research. From what I recall, chimpanzees share at least 95 percent of human DNA, although the number that floats around the most is 98.6 If chimpanzees have consciousness, if they are capable of abstractions, do they not have what until now has been described as "human rights"?

Thousands of live animals are shot, stabbed, dismembered, burned, and poisoned every year in Department of Defense (DoD) training exercises designed to train medics and infantry in how to treat various human battlefield injuries.

One of the issues raised by a member was that we need to listen to "science" more and that science will save us. I raised the point that science does not solve everything. And those scientists are humans with the same motivations and agendas as any other human. Science does not solve everything.
