When referring to cats, dogs and horses of unknown sex, the children would randomly assign sex, with the conventionally "prettier" animals being called "she." Tags: Books Ethics Language parenting publishing speciesism veganism. Meanwhile, the lizard has a male name so you'd think he'd be called "he." That makes sense to me.
