It only takes a little imagination to suppose that every bite of hamburger we eat is taking grain away from a hungry child in India. Nobody wants existing animals to be slaughtered. How can we understand Lappé’s recommendation of a meatless diet as a “first step” toward changing the present situation? KBJ: I’m speechless.
