We remember starlings not skylarks, House Sparrows not Eurasian Tree Sparrows , Cattle Egrets not… well, whatever we’ve forgotten because it didn’t do as well as the Cattle Egrets. In Germany, they occur throughout but are considerably rarer e.g. around the Baltic or Berlin than they are in the SW.

What could be plainer than the Eurasian Tree Sparrow ? However, they sometimes claim to be the national bird of Germany due to their black-red-yellow color combination – this is not true. This one seems to wonder about whether eating flies is the right lifestyle choice though. Their chicks are kind of cute though.
