A visit to Dog Lake

Mule Deer have always been pretty common in this area, but I got quite a surprise when I cleared a small hill in the road, and nearly ran over a male Pronghorn Antelope , right in the middle of the road. This is one of several families of Western Grebes stayed out in the middle of the lake all day. It was good to be back!

Birding Zion National Park in Winter

My visit to the park in southwestern Utah commenced with us (us being me and my family, and an extended number of in-laws, eleven people in total, four of us kids under ten) driving through Zion late in the evening on Saturday, 26 December, in order to get to our lodging just east of the park in Zion Pionderosa Ranch Resort.
