The first time I went was for my Masters Field Trip, studying tropical ecology in Kenya (otherwise known as the best month of my life). I bring this up not to boast (well, not much) but because I think that this approach to wildlife travel is somewhat neglected in birding circles. I’ll also take the opportunity to travel a bit.

A Walk in the Desert

A single morning birding the thorny desert of Baringo in Kenya’s Rift Valley yielded several species at a rate I at times struggled to keep up with. Humbled by our intimate experience with two huge owls that graciously allowed us into their space, we were already driving when conversations eventually restarted.
