Everything new is Old (World) again

This month we were able to go to Europe again, for our first real vacation in a few years. Smaller raptors were either European Sparrowhawks (true hawks) or Eurasian Kestrels (falcons). The European Robin , now considered an Old World flycatcher rather than a thrush, also stays the winter in much of Western Europe.
