The capital is San Juan, an important center of Caribbean culture and transportation. The USVI are smaller and have fewer habitats and, as a result, fewer bird species. In Birding magazine, ABA President Jeff Gordon argued that adding Hawaii would “bring an unjustly excluded community of birders into full membership in the ABA family.”
