What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death. More states will doubtless join the queue of those proposing hunts.

Best Bird of the Year 2013

I was fortunate to rack up a number of lifers in 2013, both at home and abroad ( Varied Thrush in Washington, Brewer’s Blackbirds in California, Burrowing Owl in the Nevada desert). Meredith enjoyed her first sighting of an awesome migration spectacle. She blogged about it here.
