I was high and happy, not from “420” drugs but from the altitude and the anticipation of seeing woodpeckers and owls I had never seen before. My hosts could confidently tick off the species on their life list. Coming down from the emotional high we noticed our grumbling stomachs: time to eat. I ticked off 9 lifers.
