Disappointed with a Florida Fork-tailed Flycatcher

Its debatable which one is a better bird for Florida. To be honest, this was actually a bit of a downer for me. Well, it recalled to me two previous finds. Back in the 1980’s, I found a King Eider – adult male, no less – in Hillsboro Inlet in Pompano Beach. As I mentioned, my goal was to find and photograph Gray Kingbird.

Lost Among the Birds: A Review of a Big Year Book

The chapter titles, one for each year, thankfully change from downers like “The Bluebirds of Unhappiness” to the knowingly corny (“Winning the Booby Prize” wins the prize). And, the birds and birding trips to Arizona, Florida, California, the waters of North Carolina, and Alaska—always back to Alaska—start accumulating.
