The authors trace the creation of swamps, wetlands, and meadows by farmers, and then the destruction of wetlands by the building of golf courses, the loss of meadows by the construction of train tracks. This is a project that clearly spanned decades. It’s a very mixed chapter. Another big year memoir? I love reading all of the above.
