Would we say these people were slaughtered in a “people friendly” manner? Confinement is confinement, mutilation is mutilation, and slaughter is slaughter. My doctor says my tremendous health and strength are due to my being a vegan. To the Editor: The term “free range” sounds prettier than it usually is.

Free range” does not solve the problem of painful debeaking, enormously oversized flocks or the unnatural isolation of the birds from other sexes and age groups.
