Of course dippers are not that common and thus harder to find in Germany than those aforementioned species. Therefore, those very few northern winter guests that reach Germany are concentrated in our largest northern German cities, Berlin and Hamburg. And of course, you can’t have a dipper post on a birding blog without the dip.

And of course, birders (at least me) do not care too much for Giant Pandas, which are the main attraction of this area, despite their pathetic habits. The Latin species name of the Slaty Bunting is siemsseni , after Georg Theodor Siemssen (1816-1886), a German merchant born in Hamburg, my favorite German city.
