This of course raises questions of what happens when all of the inland nesting grounds of all the loons becomes covered with glacial ice during ice ages, then later, the ice melts and the lakes return. Patrick got a very good bird for Costa Rica as his Best Bird of the Year…though the circumstances made it bittersweet.
