He was adopted by the Masson family and was apparently the most loving dog all who met him had ever had the pleasure of being licked by. Also, the have families (as if other animals don't). Meanwhile, gorillas don't live in a traditional human family structure of mom, dad and kids, but somehow their family structure is an important reason for us to save them. We do that with cats and dogs already, right? I'm a terrible fiction writer.
