The photographic quality ranges from very good to exceptional, and though the point of photographs in a book like this is to communicate information, I think the excellence of some of Loughlin’s photography suffers from the number of images packed into the book. I also think there are chapters where the photographs crowd out the text.

Do whales deserve constitutional protection against slavery? PETA went on to request that the whales be freed and released to a habitat better suited to their needs. SeaWorld’s attempts to deny [orcas] the protection solely based on their species is the same kind of prejudice used to justify any enslavement.

The early threats of guano harvesting and egg collecting have been replaced by the more ominous threats of oil pollution and overfishing of their favorite food source – pilchards. Sharks, Cape Fur Seals and even Killer Whales will prey on them in the ocean.
