The sanctuary is of global importance, a complex of mudflats, salt marsh, coastal prairie uplands and open beach owned and managed by Houston Audubon Society. They did flush eventually, but not because of humans. It’s located on a five-mile long jetty built by the U.S. Surprisingly, the Avocet area was not fenced off.
