It has no avian endemic species (only one subspecies), and its most spectacular birds like Venezuelan Troupial and Fiery-Topaz Hummingbird can be found in greater numbers across a narrow strait in mainland South America, where you can pick up an additional 400-500 species besides. This, like most things, offers some pros and some cons.

While we continue to decimate our short and tall grass prairies many species reach their inevitable peril. Here in Colorado many species are affected, but perhaps none more than our beautiful Mountain Plovers and Ferruginous Hawks. I feel blessed to live in Colorado where I can see these beauties in migration and breeding.

This property is located in northern Butte County which is nearing the (dwindling) northern most historic range for this species in California. They noted 598 species as a team, bringing the year total to 2118 and pushing the life list to 3555. Trinidad Lake Watchable Wildlike Trail and Hides, Colorado. Cattle Tyrant – Machetornis rixosa.
