Races gabonensis and inornatus intergrade in Nigeria; proposed races nigeriae (S Nigeria) and goodi (N Cameroon) not satisfactorily distinguishable from former and latter, respectively. I grew up in a small town in Northern Germany. The HBW describes the species as “striking”, which is well deserved. A pity I cannot draw.

The wonders of migration

There was a recovery of a banded bird in Cameroon in winter over 82 years before the project started, but beyond that no-one knew anything about their migration route. Last year Germany and Belarus also attached some satellite tags to some of the Cuckoos in their respective countries and all of their journeys are available in one place.
