New moral vegetarianism, however, rests on moral arguments couched in terms of human welfare. Nobody wants existing animals to be slaughtered. In 1974 we shipped four times as much food to Cambodia and South Vietnam as to starving Bangladesh and Swahelian Africa. These differences aside, is the argument valid?
