In eight months, the sale of foie gras will be banned in California. Apparently, this will happen in 8 months. I had no idea! Excerpted from The New York Times. There was even a foie gras dessert: a brownie sundae with foie gras Chantilly.

In issuing its condemnation of established cultural practices, the rights view is not antibusiness, not antifreedom of the individual, not antiscience, not antihuman. It is simply projustice, insisting only that the scope of justice be seen to include respect for the rights of animals. Might does not make right; might does make law.

I used to support the bloodless bullfights held in California. Next time, though, I might want to hook up with an animal rights group to protest. Anyway, here is an article that describes the practice and provides some background on the Portuguese-Americans in California. This was a clear violation of animal law.

It was sent back to trial court, but by then the yearly event had become such a media circus – with live TV coverage and protesters taking down the license plates of shooters’ vehicles – that the sponsors ended it. Groups across the country, including Project Coyote in California, are fighting similar battles.

Here in Seattle, NARN (Northwest Animal Rights Network) has been staging protests at a local restaurant that serves foie gras. Having said that though, I see that these types of protests have had an effect in the San Diego area. Tags: animal cruelty california foie gras food. They've caught a lot of grief over it.
