Week 16: South Africa and Kruger National Park

In the first full day, we have seen dozens each of giraffes, zebra, warthogs, elephants, 12 rhinos, 30 hippos, 3 Cape Buffalo, crocodiles, jackals, monkeys, baboons, literally a thousand impala, and at least 10 different antelope type animals. The mighty rhino along with the Cattle Egret.

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Gaur Morning

Bigger than the African Buffalo or the American Bison, it is the largest land animal after the Elephant, Rhino, the Hippopotamus and the Giraffe. Among the bamboo, only a few metres away from us, is an imposing black shadow of the largest wild bovid alive today: Gaur!

Madikwe; Paradise Restored

It’s the only park I have ever been to that not only have I seen all five of the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, African Buffalo, White Rhino and African Elephant) in, but seen them all on the same day. I never get bored of Giraffes. Springbok were one of my targets, and I got them! Or Cheetahs. Yes, there are birds.
