Meanwhile, Feldstein's voice, as one would expect, is one that speaks of "humane" treatment and advocates for reform. This isn't to say that Feldstein hasn't or won't write about topics interesting to animal rights advocates (such as Breed Specific Legislation), but the mere existence of the two should get people thinking.

"All animals deserve humane treatment, including animals raised for food.” It applies to breeding pigs, egg laying hens and veal calves. Proposition 2 ends the practice of confining certain animals raised for food in crates and cages so small the animals can barely move.

I'm sure we could do a much better job of ensuring the humane treatment of our laboratory animals--but at this point it's very difficult even to start the discussion. It "guarantees humane treatment?" Isn't it better for science, and more humane, to use just one animal? Maybe on paper. But that's now what happened.
