Joseph Chiera is a Masters student in Animal Behavior and Conservation at Hunter College in NYC and a “somewhat newbie” to birding. In fact I don’t think the sun ever set while we were in Iceland. After taking an ornithology course last year, he was hooked and spends most of his free time birding or reading birding blogs.

You can take in views of waterfowl including Eurasian Wigeon , Barnacle Geese , Trumpeter Swan , and a plethora of ducks and gulls. Next came a stop in Russia.

Felonious Jive really likes a ravishing returning rarity – a Falcated Duck. Considering the bird survived a season in an area saturated with hunters and birds of prey, this facemelting rarity deserves our respect. Secretive, silent and undetectable outside of its breeding season, found only in the U.S. Sound good?
