Here in the Brecks – an area of poor, sandy soils on the borders of Norfolk and Suffolk – we have a small but important breeding population. They favour the old heaths, but a number of pairs also breed on farmland. Brettenham Heath National Nature Reserve holds the highest density of nesting Curlews in the Brecks.

Why Do Penguins Wear Tuxedos?

They range in size from the tiny Fairy Penguin ( Eudyptula minor ) at about 1 kg to the very large Emperor Penguin Aptenodytes forsteri at about 35 kg (that would be a reasonably large dog). Penguins are flightless, but some species locomote over long distances on antarctic ice to travel between breeding grounds and the sea.
