The islands were purchased by the United States from Denmark in 1916. But other species have not been recorded in the ABA Area, including, of course, all 16 Puerto Rican endemics. For example, the Endangered Species Act and Migratory Bird Treaty Act—America’s most important avian conservation laws—apply in both territories.
