The original distribution of the Wild Turkey is not clearly known, but it existed from the Eastern Seaboard of the US nearly to the Rocky Mountains, avoided some of the more open plains in the north, and occurred in central Mexico. Archaeological, zooarchaeological, and ancient DNA evidence combine to confirm the identification and context.
